Full Description: ‘English’ Concertina Tutor: Metzler & Co.’s Tutor for the English Concertina. London: Metzler, 1920. This 1920 edition of an earlier 1885 period tutor is by R S (Ralph Sydney) Pratten,(1824-1868) who was a flute virtuoso who often performed with his wife, Madame Sydney Pratten (née Catherina Josepha Pelzer) both of whom played concertina, and whose purchases appear regularly in the Horniman/Wayne Concertina Ledgers. Catherina’s father Ferdinand Pelzer (1801-1860), a German émigré, was a well-known guitarist, music teacher, and author of tutors for guitar, piano, and also “A Practical Guide to the Concertina”, c. 1844 -1850, London: (publisher unknown). Catherina Josepha (1821-1895), was best known as a guitar virtuoso under her married name of Madame Sydney Pratten.
