End Frets

Summary: The post-1848 machine-cut fretwork introduced by Louis Lachenal during his time as Manager at Wheatstone's Conduit St premisesis now the standard format. The frets are now machine-cut, chamfered to the edges, with embouchures for maker's label and for a serial number (both present)

End Shape: Hexagonal

End Sides: Six

End Diameter: 156.5mm

End-Profile: Flat, with chamfered edges.

End Material: Single-ply pale and grained rosewood ends, in the post-1848 machine-cut fretwork style.

End Bolts: Medium cheese-head pale brass bolts, securing the fretwork end to the action frame and bellows.

Fret Pattern: Post-1848 machine-cut fretwork introduced by Louis Lachenal

Label Embouchure Pattern: Oval to RH, scalloped shape to LH

Strap Screw-insert type: Inset circular brass disc with one steel securing screw, one at each side.

Finger-rest: Standard format curved-end brass finger-rests, with full leather cladding, only on LH. Three securing screws.

Fret Condition: Good.

Damage Summary: Straps loose and worn.
