The Concertina Museum Collection Ref:C-014.
An 1844 period 44-key Wheatstone English system, with the first appearance within the Collection's Wheatstones of the "Circular Fret" design, in which intricate fretwork is replaced by an annular space between outer and inner parts of the ends, revealing a circular view of the sub-fret pine boards. This did not become a "Standard" Wheatstone design, though it was tried by the later makers such as Joseph Scates. This version has endbolts in the centre of the sides of the action (unlike the corner positions in Instrument C-014), and square-ended nickel-tongued reeds, with the later divided end- and action-levels, and the early "Circle & Dot" bellows papers.

The Concertina Museum Collection Ref:C-015.
An 1843/6 period 44-key Wheatstone English system, with an early appearance within the Collection's Wheatstones of the "Circular Fret" design, in which intricate fretwork is replaced by an annular space between outer and inner parts of the ends, revealing a circular view of the sub-fret pine boards. Also it exhibits with a first appearance within the Collection of the "single action" format, in whch a single-dsided reed-pan had reeds which only sounded on the "press" of the bellows, and the air valves within would allows the bellows to take in more air on the "Draw".This, and the circular fret pattern, did not become a "Standard" Wheatstone design, though it was tried by the later makers such as Joseph Scates. This version has endbolts in the corners of the ends, and square-ended nickel-tongued reeds and single-depth action-frame, and the early "Circle & Dot" bellows papers.

C Wheatstone No 19870. A 48-Key English system, No 19870, from 1880, and showing changes from the post-1848 Lachenal-influenced design. Still with the "By Her Majesty's" label, and machine-cut frets with chamfered edges. The reeds are now in long-scale round-ended brass reed-frames with single small riveted steel tongues, and there is now no annular pan-label.

C Wheatstone No 20030. A 48-Key English system, No 20030, made in February 1882, and showing changes from the post-1848 Lachenal-influenced design. Still with the "By Her Majesty's" label, and machine-cut frets with chamfered edges. The reeds are now in long-scale round-ended brass reed-frames with single small riveted steel tongues, and there is now no annular pan-label.

The Concertina Museum Collection Ref:C-080.
C Wheatstone No 22521. A 48-Key English system, No 22521, from around 1893/4, and showing changes from the post-1848 Lachenal-influenced design. The "By Her Majesty's" headed label now announces the details of the Madras dealer "Misquith & Co". The machine-cut new style frets have chamfered edges. The reeds are now in long-scale round-ended brass reed-frames with single small riveted steel tongues, and there is now no annular pan-label.

The Concertina Museum Collection Ref:C-081.
C Wheatstone No 22965. A first appearance of the early form of Wheatstone's "Ĉola", a high quality ebony-ended 48-Key English system, No 22965, from around 1896/98. Still with the "By Her Majesty's" label, New pattern of "Dot and Comma" ebony fretwork with "Ĉola" stamped into the section below the bass Keys, and with chamfered edges. The blued-steel reeds are now in long-scale round-ended brass reed-frames with a return to two steel securing the tongues. There is now no annular pan-label. No Ledgers survive for this period.

The Concertina Museum Collection Ref:C-082.
C Wheatstone No 23107. An early appearance Wheatstone's "Ĉola" in its standard Octagonal form. This model is a high quality Tenor-Treble 48-Key English system Ĉola, No 23107, from around 1900/05. Some later bellows repairs may have been done at H Crabb & Son. The blued-steel reeds are now in long-scale round-ended brass reed-frames. There is now no annular pan-label. No Ledgers survive for this period.

C Wheatstone No 35226. A fine and large Wheatstone 81-Key Maccan Duet "Ĉola" in its standard Octagonal form. This model is a high quality Duet system Ĉola, No 35226, made in late 1939.
